Our Stones

The Heart of the Southwest in Every Stone

At Santa Fe Craftsman, we take pride in sourcing only the finest materials. Our jewelry is crafted with high-quality stones and sterling silver, employing techniques that have been passed down through generations of artisans.

Turquoise

Turquoise is the quintessential stone of the Southwest, deeply rooted in Native American culture since ancient times. Our turquoise is sourced from some of the most renowned mines in the United States, including those in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. Each mine yields unique colors and patterns, ranging from vibrant robin's egg blue to rich emerald green and even pale, almost white hues. We feature stones from celebrated mines such as Kingman, Blue Diamond, Royston, Dry Creek, Golden Hill, and many others.

White Buffalo

Mined in Nevada, White Buffalo is a striking stone that can be pure white, marbled, or predominantly black. Although often mistaken for turquoise, White Buffalo is not actually turquoise. It is geologically similar, but recent studies have confirmed its distinct identity. Its unique appearance makes it a captivating choice for jewelry.

Malachite

Malachite is a deep green stone known for its vivid color and unique patterns. Primarily mined in the Ural Mountains of Russia, it is also sourced from Africa, Australia, and Mexico. With a long history and cultural significance, Malachite adds depth and meaning to any piece it adorns.

Spiny Oyster Shell

Spiny Oyster Shell is an eccentric and vibrant shell found off the coast of Baja California. Its colors range from bright orange and deep red to stunning violet. As an increasingly popular alternative to red coral, Spiny Oyster Shell offers a bold and colorful option. The deeper the shell is found in the ocean, the richer its color becomes. Visit our store to see both raw Spiny Oyster Shells and the beautiful jewelry crafted from them.

Red Coral

Red Coral has a long-standing tradition in jewelry-making across the world, and Southwestern jewelry is no exception. In recent years, conservation efforts have made Red Coral increasingly rare. However, artists who have carefully preserved their coral stock continue to create breathtaking pieces, keeping this ancient tradition alive.
